  1. Access for All

Handforth Station platforms are currently accessed by steps from Station Road (a drop of about 18 feet). This makes it difficult for wheelchair users, partially sighted passengers, pram users, cyclists and others with heavy loads to use the station.

The Friends have been campaigning for better access to the platforms for some time.

The two (not mutually exclusive) possible options are:

    • Construction of ramped access from booking hall level to the platforms (adjacent to the existing steps).
    • Construction of paths from land adjacent to the platforms (South Acre Drive and Royal British Legion).

Estimated costs have been obtained by Northern Rail. Despite these being considerably higher than anticipated, discussions continue with interested parties including the Wilmslow Access Forum.
  2. Sculptures

Local artist Paul Noon has previously carved former railway sleepers into animal designs that spell out HANDFORTH.

He has now carved 6 more sleepers to to depict Handforth passengers over the years.

Funding was secured in the form of a grant from Macclesfield Borough Council in July 2008.
  3. Passenger Information

We have been lobbying for better provision of train running information on the platforms. This
is especially  important when the booking hall is unmanned after 1pm. We hope to have some
          positve developments in 2010.

      4.  Station Time Capsule
An exciting project led by Rotary and Handforth Guiding movement to mark the latter's centenary
         celebrations during 2009-10.

5. Flags

We are working with Rainbow Pre-School Nursery and Wilmslow Grange Primary to provide more flags at the station in 2010.
