Handforth station has secured Government funding to make it step-free, it was announced today (Thursday 4th April).
The Department for Transport has named Handforth as one of 73 stations nationally to benefit from £300 million being spent on rail networks and infrastructure as part of the Government’s Access For All scheme.
Friends of Handforth Station have campaigning for step-free access ever since we were founded in 1996. Today’s announcement is the successful outcome of the bid that FoHS and our supporters submitted in November 2018, and is the first major advance towards our goal. However, this is only the first step, and much work will have to be done over the next 2 to 5 years.
